Our Mission
At Knowledge Exchange, our mission is simple: extend the life of every book. We’re building a future where fewer books are wasted, more readers have access to stories, and libraries can focus on doing what they do best—connecting people with knowledge.
Who We Are
We’re book people from the very communities we serve. Some of us grew up with weekly library visits. Some of us still can’t leave a bookstore without a stack. And all of us believe books deserve better than the dumpster. That’s why we do what we do.

What We Do
We partner with libraries across Chicagoland and beyond to rescue, redistribute, and rehome books that are no longer needed. Our process is simple, sustainable, and built for busy librarians. Every bin we pick up helps give books a second life and keeps paper waste out of landfills.
Why We Do It
Because books change lives. They teach, inspire, comfort, and connect. But too many end up tossed before their time. At Knowledge Exchange, we believe no book should go to waste. We’re here to preserve stories, spread knowledge, and create more chances for someone to fall in love with reading.

Our Commitment to Sustainability
We take your trust seriously—and your books even more so. Most items we collect are rehomed or recycled, but some materials (like DVDs or batteries in talking books) are more complex. We're always looking for better, greener ways to process even the trickiest items. Our goal? Nothing wasted. Everything with purpose.
